The cambelt, also known as a toothed belt, ensures that all moving engine components, such as pistons and valves, are synchronised and thus avoid any unwanted contact with each other. The fact that the belt is made from a rubber-based compound provides benefits such as reduced noise and increased efficiency, but it also means that, just like tyres, the belt can deteriorate over time. Wear and tear occurs with age and mileage but also with repeated short stop and start journeys. Recommended replacement intervals for timing belts often depend on the make and model of the vehicle. Some models require belt replacements every 4 years and others suggest every 10 years. We can check this for you from your vehicle registration number.
